MicroSurvey CAD

Welcome to the MicroSurvey CAD feedback and ideas forum. This forum is for you to use to offer us feedback about features you would like added or improved.

You have 25 votes that can be used, a minimum of one vote is needed per feature request. You can also use your votes towards existing features that other users have requested.

After a feature has been implemented, you will get your votes back to apply to new or other existing features.

How can we improve MicroSurvey CAD, inCAD, or embeddedCAD?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can vote and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can vote on it.

  1. Open/Import and Save/Export Shapefiles

We do a lot of work with various industries and it seems shapefiles and drawing files are common between us. We can use 2010 to save to any sort of drawing files, but no ability to save or import a shapefile makes it difficult to communicate with contractors of different fields (IE environmentalists).

    • Add QC Reporting For Survey Data

This is a long topic and I hope others have some good ideas for reporting requirements.
All the data is there, I need to be able to check the quality of the data without reading all the traverse files line by line, especially in large projects.

      RTK Reporting
I would like to be able to select any point and view:
      Antenna Height
      RMS
      Solution type (fixed, float etc)
      #SV's
      Time
      Vector data and precision
      Traverse file name

      Conventional
      Measurement info
      Reduced HZ,VA,SD,HD
      Standard deviation of measurement set
      Traverse file name

I would like to be able to generate various reports…

      • Point manipulation like Carlson or LDD for easier basemapping

I would like to be able to manipulation points in MS like Carlson or LDD. I would like to be able to "pull them apart" in clustered area with quick leaders. I would like to scale them up and down in size, text separate from the symbols. And the points need to be a block so you can rotate them individually.

        • Inverse a list of points to an alignment. Very useful for construction work checking,,

I usually use some other software to inverse a series of points to an alignment simply created by connecting other points. What I look for is the horizontal offset from the alignment, the station and the cut/fill info. Survey Pro has this really simple function and it is quite handy.

          • Commit to creating a series of Webinars on key MicroSurvey topics. This is a great teaching tool.

Many companies are creating these and permanently posting them in on-line libraries. They can supplement the current "movies" & are closer to an in-class seminar.

            • Allow an Advanced license key to run a Standard or Basic installation

Our company currently has both Standard and Advances MScad licenses. We also have more than 1 office location. If I travel to another office and take my Advanced key, I can't use MScad because they only have the Standard version installed. Either we need to do an advanced install on one machine (which means that no-one in that office can use MScad on that machine at all), or I leave my Advanced key behind and only be able to share the existing Standard key(s) in that office.

              • Easier Multiple MSpoint layers without AutoMap

The ability to quickly toggle back and forth between multiple MSpoint layers would be greatly appreciated when using Microsurvey in the construction environment. This would greatly enhance functionality when creating construction layout data which is typically done by discipline, for example MS point layers: Control points, Grid Lines, Excavation, Structural concrete, Yard Piping, Grading etc. Currently using AutoMap to organize layout data is cumbersome.

                • points

Give InCAD/MSCad the ability to link mulitple dwg files to one (1) single point database. This is similar to the LDD concept of many dwgs, one point database. MSCad works great for small jobs, but as soon as you get into a big project, point management becomes a nightmare and it hurts productivity. This would solve that problem.

                  • Enable the Grouping of Layers / Sub-layers

There are many jobs I work on which I wish that MicroSurvey had the ability to group layers and to insert sublayers under general layers. i.e. the general topo survey could find you with a main Layer of Buildings with several sub-layers such as Commercial, Residential, Government, etc. same with vegetation and water features -> implement some kind of GIS type menu style

                    • Show all observations from a DBX file in the Active Traverse Editor

I need to have the ability to see the sets of angles from a Leica DBX file produced by an MS 50 in the Active Traverse Editor and have the ability to edit any of the of sets or individual observations within a set. Also have the editor compute the statistical values of the each set and the combination of all sets/observations and have the ability to comment out (not use and not remove
) an angle set or a single observation.

                      • scale bar

Carlson Survey has a very nice routine for adding scale bars. When you have your drawing set at the proper scale say 1"=30', when you insert a scale bar, viola! the scale bar comes in at 1"=30'. And if you need to add another scale bar for another view port, say an area you want to show more detail, change the project settings scale to 10 scale and boom! the scale bar comes in at 1"=10'.

                        • Allow MicroSurvey 2013 to import .flx files from older versions of MicroSurvey

The company I work for used to have MicroSurvey 2007 and 2002 as the standard software. Since upgrading our computers, we have also moved forward to MicroSurvey 2013 and have found that while our batch conversion to .dwgs from 2002 saved the line work, the associativity with the database files have been lost on most of those files, so we need to go back and open the .flx files again. With only one computer in the office still running the old software, this is a major inconvenience. It would be so much nicer to simply be able to import the…

                          • create a routine for making breaklines

It would be great if a routine was there to create breaklines by just clicking on existing lines and/or the same way lines are created by point number and range of point numbers. Better yet would be to have any lines in a drawing to be used as a breakline.

I think there are ways we can make this easier. If you know all the commands in MicroSurvey you can use them to accomplish the task, but there is a good reason to make it easier by adding some functionality to the MsSurface menu in the breakline area.

                            • Create bearing/distance table using point numbers

I would love to be able to pick a "from" point number, then a range of "to" point numbers and have a bearing/distance table created (as well as a printout). This would be great for creating shoreline tie tables.

                              • Finally beef up & expand the engineering design options such as storm & sanitary line layouts.

The current routines have not been upgraded in years, despite previous promises to make these far more robust. Let's expand the road layout and manhole/catch basin design options!

                                  • Helmerts Transformation - Disable Rotation

When fitting to an old astronomic plan I generally use a Helmert's Transformation. This causes problems when the rotation of the "local" points to the plan points is applied since bearings no longer match the listed plan. If you could disable the rotation and have a best fit translation it would help considerably.

                                    • Add annotate commands

                                      - There is not line or curve annotation commands off the line by leader.
                                      - Auto Bearing & Dist offline (both stacked and side by side)
                                      - Point to point labels for B&D (both stacked & side by side)
                                      - Also when adding a bearing, if I press on one end, it should assume that is the beginning end of the line and put the appropriate bearing from that end.

                                      • Enable the Join function for 3d polylines (within the "pedit" command)

When creating continuous 3d polylines for roadwork it is extremely useful to be able to break lines and then re-join segments of them without having to re-draw the entire polyline

                                        • Adding spaces to labelled bearings

Have an option to add a space or two between the Degrees Minutes and Seconds when adding bearings to a plan. This would make the bearings easier to read on a finished plan.
